A couple of years ago, when we discovered the Whispering Hollow neighborhood, we decided that we would be very comfortable living there. My wife Claire fell in love with one of the model homes. When we visited the neighborhood again last week, we found out that the model had been sold! I’m sure that they will build another one like that one!
A drive past the beautiful entry sign and flag pole from FM 1626 gets you into Whispering Hollow and the Estates of Whispering Hollow. This development, begun in 2005, is located S/SW of Austin and west of the City of Buda, Texas. The community likely will not be completed until 2010. Residents who work and play in Austin travel via FM 1626 and Brodie Lane, or through Buda to I-35. A future extension of SH 45 from Mopac to FM 1826 has been approved, but is not yet scheduled and funded.
The two builders, Standard Pacific Homes and Ryland Homes, are building a variety of distinctive, quality single- and two-story homes that range in size from about 1550 SF to over 3300 SF. Homes in the Estates section have from 2359 SF to 3559 SF. Concerned about price? Base prices for new homes in Whispering Hollow range from $176K all the way to $275K. In late August 2008, seven resale homes were listed for sale from $200K to $252K. The standard interior and exterior features in these homes are too many to mention.
The Whispering Hollow amenity center has a fenced swimming pool, a pavilion for family activities, a playscape for children and a large, attractive green area surrounding it. Streets in Whispering Hollow are wide, and are decorated by distinctive stop signs and light poles.
Nearby shopping includes an HEB Plus grocery store, Cabela’s, a Super Wal-Mart, the Tangier Outlet Mall in San Marcos, and South Austin’s huge Southpark Meadows development at I-35 and W. Slaughter Lane. The Plum 
Creek and Grey Rock Golf Clubs are short drives from Whispering Hollow, as are a number of parks (including McKinney Falls State Park and two Metro parks along W. Slaughter Lane).
Children living in Whispering Hollow attend Elm Grove Elementary (adjacent to the neighborhood), Dahlstrom Middle School (west of FM 1626 on FM 967), and Jack C. Hays High School (south of the neighborhood on FM 2770). All schools are part of the Hays Consolidated Independent School District.
