Shop and Eat in South/Southwest Austin!

Southpark Meadows, I-35 and W. Slaughter LaneWhen we moved to Austin in 2003, we purchased a home in Sendera subdivision. Why? We loved the value, the trees, the greenbelts in the South & Southwest (S/SW) Austin area. Our home has trees and backs to a greenbelt!

But, the number and type of shopping and eating places in S/SW Austin at that time were not up to par. More often than not, it seems, we ended up going north a lot of the time. And, it seemed like when we went it was the wrong time of day to go! Too much traffic to deal with makes a meal or shopping less enjoyable.

Escarpment Village, Escarpment and W. Slaughter Lane in Circle C Ranch.Since we became S/SW Austin homeowners, the shopping and eating options south of Lady Bird Johnson Lake have improved greatly! Many new venues have been added -- most of them along the two major N-S roads (Mopac and I-35) and three E-W corridors (US 290/71, William Cannon and W. Slaughter Lane).

Major stores that have been built include 3 Super Wal-Marts (one an expansion of an existing store), a Costco, a Target, Home Depot, Lowe's and many more name-brand and local brand stores. Restaurants that have been built include Chili's, Applebee's, Chuy's, Cheddars, Jason's Deli, Texas Road House, Waterloo Ice House, and more. Add to this a profusion of banks, credit unions, Walgreen's and CVS Pharmacies, clothing and furniture stores, small businesses like Starbucks, etc. All of these places are readily accessible to those who live south of the river. You get the picture. If there is something that you are looking for, you very likely can find at one of these South and Southwest Austin developments.

The Shops at Arbor Trails, Mopac and Wm. CannonWhen we were new new to Austin (relocated from the Victoria area), it took a long time for us to learn where to go for things we wanted or needed. Knowing what is available and where to go to get it surely helps. Click on the link below for more details about some key shopping centers and to see a map showing their location.
