Sendera Austin Subdivision National Night Out

Entrance to Sendera Glen from W. Slaughter Lane.On Tuesday night (10/7/08) my wife and I were part of a National Night Out “picnic” and gathering of neighbors in our section of SW Austin’s Sendera subdivision. We all brought chairs, drinks and various things to eat, and gathered at the end of the cul-de-sac on Companeros Way. The food was good (even the jalapeno sausage!), and the weather was delightful. But, the visits with 30 or so other people in our neighborhood (most of whom I had never met) was the best! We were a mixed group, including a several-month-old baby boy (adopted by his proud parents), a number of children (a couple of which had falls on the street), some teens, young adults, and those of us on the other end of the age spectrum (grand parents!).

We visited with some who had lived in Sendera since the subdivision was opened in 1997, and others, like a young man from Nepal, who had been part of the Sendera community for a short time. We talked golf, politics (right before the presidential debate), jobs, family and more. The star of the evening had to be the sweet lady (a recent Sendera home buyer) who organized and promoted the get-together. (She went this extra mile so she could meet more of the folks who live in Sendera). Our thanks to her for all she did!

This Sendera “night out” was a memorable experience, but I do have one regret: I forgot to take my camera to record some digital images of the event! I am ready for the next “night out!” (I hope I remember my camera!)
