Going Green!

With the price of energy going up daily, there is definitely a need to conserve resources. Of the many ways available (like raising the thermostat setting in the summer and driving less to show houses), there is a new one: reusable shopping bags. I remember the familiar question of days gone by: "Paper or plastic?" Today, you could get frowned upon if you don't bring cloth with you to the store.

A few weeks ago my wife and I went to our local grocery store (HEB) and came home with four green bags (that seems appropriate!). We wanted to be part of this new wave of eliminating some waste and saving the energy it takes to make plastic bags. Our first "official" use of the bags was on a trip to WalMart! We did get some good-natured ribbing from the young man who was making sure each customer had a shopping cart. Why? WalMart reusable bags are definitely not green, and they don't have "HEB" on them. Truthfully, it was pretty neat having all those groceries in 4 bags instead of 12. They were much easier to get into the car and into the house. Plus, there were no bags to store or throw away! With the green bags, we were going green.

Just one problem: we do not always remember to take the bags with us when we go to the grocery store! In time, we will train ourselves to remember.
