Travis Country Overview and Location

The pond at the Blue Valley Recreational Area in Southwest Austin's Travis Country subdivisionTravis Country is bordered by the Southwest Parkway on its S/SW side, Foster Ranch Rd./Travis Country Circle on the west, the Barton Creek Wilderness Park and Greenbelt on the N/NE side and by Mopac on the SE. It is a lovely development that features a great number of mature trees, parks and green areas throughout. Two active creeks help keep the green areas green!

Another factor that makes Travis Country appealing is its location. From Travis Country you can pretty easily get to jobs, schools, Downtown Austin (just a few miles), UT, Austin entertainment, shopping, the Hill Country, and most of the major traffic routes in the Austin area.

Travis Country Development and Homes

The development of Travis Country began in 1973 (about the same time Shady Hollow was started in South Austin) and continued until the last homes A view of the Travis Country neighborhoodwere built in 2001. The opportunities for home ownership in Travis Country include two sections of condominiums (Woods of Travis Country and Parke at Travis Country). Other sections of the neighborhood offer single-family homes in areas known as Trailwood Village, Lost Creek at Gaines Ranch and Travis Country Green. Collectively, these areas make up the whole of what is a very popular and attractive development.

Single-family home styles vary quite a bit in Travis Country. Some of the variation is due to the development of the subdivision over 29 or so years, and the changes in building styles over that period. Including condos in the mix, the sizes of homes in Travis Country range from around 1,200 sq. ft. to over 4,100 sq. ft. The features of the homes vary widely also, depnding on their size, location an degree of upgrades that current and prior owners have made.

Travis Country Amenities, HOA and Taxes

The neighborhood has a homeowners' association which takes care of the common areas of Travis Country and operates two very nice community centers. Membership in the Travis Country Community Neighborhood Association (HOA) is required.

The Blue Valley Recreational Area pool in SW Austin's Travis Country neighborhoodThe first and largest of these centers is the Blue Valley Recreation Area. This is a well-developed park-type area that features 2 swimming pools, 6 tennis courts, basketball court, picnic areas, and play equipment for the kids. The Travis Country (Sycamore) Creek winds through the middle of the neighborhood. The portion that runs along the south side of Blue Valley Recreation Center is called Blue Valley Pond. It is stocked with fish and provides a natural and beautiful home to native plants and animal life.

The other amenity center is called Hilltop Recreation Area. It is located on the west side of the subdivision, and features a pool, sports courts, and play areas. A mile-and-a-half wooded trail connects the two recreation areas. 

Travis Country residents have access to the Barton Creek greenbelt area from two locations in the neighborhood.

Tax rates in Travis Country are typical of most areas within the Austin city limits. In 2012, tax rates totalled $2.38/$100 of assessed property value.
