Shady Hollow Austin Features of Shady Hollow Neighborhoods

  • Shady Hollow literally is comprised of the original Shady Hollow, the Estates of Shady Hollow, and the newer Shady Hollow West. In practice, some other neighborhoods in this area identify themselves with Shady Hollow, making the area a collection of the neighborhoods listed below. It, like Circle C Ranch, is a popular area for living in South and Southwest Austin.

  • The first homes in Shady Hollow were built in 1973. The Shady Hollow West section was completed in 2002.

  • The Shady Hollow subdivision is unincorporated (not in the Austin city limits). For homeowners, this means a lower tax bill than in some nearby subdivisions.

  • Shady Hollow, especially the older areas, has many trees. A number of sections offer larger homesites.

  • There are three community amenity centers: the Shady Hollow Community Center (building for meetings and fellowships, tennis and basketball courts), Capistrano Park (swimming pool, playscape, tennis and basketball courts, picnic areas), and Gatling Gun Park (small neighborhood park). The neighborhood also features some nice walking trails.

  • I-35 and Mopac (Loop 1) are accessed via Brodie and W. Slaughter. The commute to downtown Austin is short, but sometimes crowded. Shady Hollow is near a number of major shopping centers and eating places, including Shady Hollow Village on Brodie Lane north of the neighborhood, Southpark Meadows at W. Slaughter and I-35, and the new Shops at Arbor Trails (Costco) center at William Cannon and Mopac.

Shady Hollow and Shady Hollow West

Shady Hollow West, the newest section of Shady Hollow, has homes that were built in the early 2000’s.  The neighborhood has an active HOA, the Shady Hollow Home Owners Association. This part of the larger neighborhood has a municipal utility district (MUD).

Homes in the Shady Hollow Estates are built on lots at least one acre in size. A number of the streets have “Hollow” in their names. The Estates of Shady Hollow is made up of about 235 homes and is located on the west side of Brodie Lane.
