Rim Rock's "Away-from-it-all" Southwest Austin Location
Rim Rock is designed to provide homeowners with the peaceful experience of living out in the Central Texas Hill Country. It is located just 19 miles from Downtown Austin via FM-1826. From Rim Rock, you can get to all things Austin and Central Texas with little trouble (depending on traffic, of course!). Rim Rock is a nice alternative for families who want to live in the country, but on larger lots than are available in subdivisions like Belterra and Highpointe (neighborhood links at the top of the page) or Meridian.
Rim Rock ♦ Builders, Homes and Homesites
In Rim Rock, there are three key options for potential homeowners: (1) Purchase a lot in the neighborhood and choose a custom builder. (2) Purchase an inventory or to-be-built home from one of the major builders in Rim Rock. (3) Buy a home that is on the resale market.
All Rim Rock homes are built on lots a minimum of 1 acre in size. The largest lot available in the original section in April 2009 was just over 3 acres. Some lots have Hill Country views and back up to green areas.
As can be seen in the table above, previously-sold homes in Rim Rock come in a wide range of sizes: from 2,566 sq. ft. to over 5,000 sq. ft. Prices also varied widely in 2015: from $397,600 to $850,000. The average sales price was $487k.
In addition to several custom home builders, there are several major area home builders are currently building homes in Rim Rock. These are Village Builders (Lennar), Scott Felder, Century Communities (formerly Jimmy Jacobs), Vintage Estate Homes (formerly Mercedes Premier Homes), Mercury Custom Homes, and Brohn Homes.
These Rim Rock builders offer 1- and 2-story options with many standard features and plenty of other elevation and upgrade options for buyers who want to personalize their homes. New home sizes (base plans) vary widely.
Rim Rock Area Features
Residents of Rim Rock live just a short drive from Southwest Austin and all it offers. Shopping venues include The Shops at Arbor Trails (Costco), Escarpment Village (Circle C Ranch, HEB grocery store), and the Sam's Club & WalMart Super Center developments at Mopac and US-290/71.
The community is also near the Grey Rock and Plum Creek Golf Courses, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, the Veloway, Hamilton Pool and other outdoor attractions.
Rim Rock Taxes and Utilities
Tax rates in Rim Rock, like those in many outlying residential developments, are higher than in Austin, for example. Why? Though there are no city taxes, the water service is provided through the Greenhawe WCID (water control and improvement district). Taxes from this WCID brought the total tax rate to near $2.94/$100 in property value in 2015. Other tax entities include the school district and Hays County.
All of the homes in Rimrock have septic systems. Electricity is provided by Pedernales Electric.

Rim Rock Subdivision ♦ Public Schools for Students
Rim Rock students learn the 3 R's and more at three schools of the Dripping Springs Independent School District. The school assignments for the 2015-2016 school year are:
