Plum Creek Homes, Builders and Future Development

Since the first homes were built in Plum Creek in 1999, several builders have added their homes to the Plum Creek landscape. In January 2017, the builders are Bigelow Homes, Homes by AVI and now-selling also, Centerra Homes.

The Peninsula at Plum Creek is a new section being offered by Centerra Homes. Buyers can choose between lot sizes of 35', 45' or 55' wide for their homes. Base prices go from $215k to $290k, with home sizes ranging from 1,340 sq. ft. up to 2,269 sq. ft. These homes will have between 3 or 4 bedrooms and 2-2.5 baths, and a two-car garage.

Homes by AVI is continuing its activity in Plum Creek in January 2017. The company offers 6 plans with 1,802 sq. ft. to 2,832 sq. ft. with base prices beginning in the low $250s, extending up to the mid $280s. Plans are 3-4 bedrooms and 2-2.5 baths.

Bigelow Homes begin the $190s and go up to the upper $290s. They are offering places in 3 sections: The Promontory on Hole 4 (two lots only), The Parks with lots of oak trees, and Live Oak Park, a pocket neighborhood in a heavily-wooded private park. Plans include 2, 3, and 4+ bedrooms with eiter 1- or 2-car garages and 1- or two-story construction.

Meritage Homes, KB Home, Bowen Family, DR Horton, Legacy and Pulte Homes also built some of the homes and townhomes in Plum Creek.

There are usually a number of homes on the resale market in Plum Creek. A glance at the table above reveals that there are occasionally homes in Plum Creek with less than 1,000 sq. ft. and over 4,000 sq. ft.

The homes in Plum Creek have features that differentiate the community from most residential subdivisions in the Austin area. The developers wanted to maintain a feel in Plum Creek that is more like neighborhoods from days gone by. The homes are painted with various mostly-pastel hues, and many have front porches. The streets in Plum Creek are typically narrower than in most Austin area neighborhoods, permitting many of the garages to be on the rear of the homes. There are plenty of trees in Plum Creek.

The site plan for the development of Plum Creek (on the developer's website) shows plans for future expansion of Plum Creek on the north side of Kohler's Crossing.

Plum Creek Golf Club

The Plum Creek Golf Club, one of the few courses on the south side of Austin, is an 18-hole layout designed to test the games of all levels of golfers. The course features 4 sets of tee boxes which stretch from the "red" tees at 4,876 to the "black" tees at 7,132 yards.

In 2009, the club finished building a new 10,000 sq.ft. clubhouse, which includes pro shop, grill, locker rooms and pavilion. The club also has a putting green, short game practice area and driving range.

Shopping for Residents of Plum Creek Kyle

Retail development in the Kyle/Buda area has blossomed over the past few years. Stores like WalMart, HEB, Home Depot, Lowe's, Cabela's and others have "sprung up" in new shopping centers along IH-35. These shopping venues include The Village at Kyle, Kyle Crossing and the Kyle Marketplace. Add to these the neighborhood's location between San Marcos (Premium Outlets, Tanger Outlet) and Austin, and you have a winning combination.

Membership in the Plum Creek HOA is required. Fees are used to take care of Plum Creek common areas and amenities.

Tax rates in Plum Creek in 2016 were around $2.83/$100 of property value. It is wise to check current tax rates when purchasing a home in Plum Creek. The primary taxing authorities are the Hays Consolidated Independent School District, Hays County, and the City of Kyle.

The development has two Jr.-Olympic-size swimming pools, parks and trails, a catch-and-release fishing lake, a community center, a dog park and a number of planned community activities.

The Plum Creek subdivision is located within the boundaries of the Hays Consolidated Independent School District. Before purchasing a home in the Plum Creek neighborhood, parents and prospective homeowners should check with the Hays CISD for current school assignments.
