Onion Creek is very near Southpark Meadows, one of the newest shopping, eating and entertainment developments in the Austin area. This huge development is anchored by major retail outlets like WalMart, Target, JC Penneys, OfficeMax, Marshall's, and The RoomStore, and by eating places like Chili's, Jason's Deli and ChickFilA (three of our favorites). Southpark Meadows also offers The Grove, a playgound for children and place for families to enjoy live Austin music, a movie theater for movie buffs, an auto repair place, banks and much more. With its many options, Southpark Meadows is a "go to" place for many.

There are also plenty of other outlets available, such as the Cabela's Outdoor store in Buda and a Home Depot and Lowe's just north of Onion Creek on IH-35. For outdoor enthusiasts, the Mary Moore Searight Metro Park, a 300+ acre offering of the City of Austin, is just to the west on W. Slaughter Ln. It has many features including picnic facilities, an 18-hole disc golf course, and basketball courts.

Onion Creek is a short drive from the 744-acre McKinney Falls State Park which opened in South Austin in 1976. The park features and has facilities for camping, hiking, road- and mountain-biking, fishing, family outings like picnics, and more. Onion Creek runs through the park.

The Onion Creek Club ♦ Golf, Tennis, Swimming

One of the beautiful holes on the Onion Creek Club golf course. The primary amenity of Onion Creek is the Onion Creek Club, a private club for residents of Onion Creek. The Club and the development take their name after the creek that meanders through the the midst of the neighborhood. The Onion Creek golf course features 27 beautiful holes of golf that are lined by towering oak, pecan and cypress trees, and by, in many places, lovely homes. The Club was founded in 1974 by golfing great Jimmy Demeret, who won the Masters Championship on three occasions. He also designed the original 18 holes of the golf course. Ben Crenshaw was one of the designers of the last 9 holes in the mid 1990s. The Onion Creek Club is the birthplace of the PGA Champions (formerly Senior) Tour, serving as host of the Legends of Golf Tournament for 11 years starting in the late 1970s. It also hosted an LPGA tournament for several years. The course presents a challenge for golfers of all skill levels.

Other features of the Onion Creek Club include a junior Olympic swimming pool, a large and active tennis center, fitness center, and facilities for dining and meetings. Membership in the Club is not required of residents, but many residents choose to belong.
