The neighborhood actually goes by three different legal names: McKinney Heights, McKinney Park East and Sheldon. All in all, "McKinney Heights" is meeting the needs of many new and resale home buyers in this area of Southeast Austin.

The homes in McKinney Heights vary pretty widely in features, size and price. As mentioned above, new home sales by KB Home was finished in 2015, leaving a resale home as the option for home buyers who want to live in the McKinney Heights subdivision.

The sales prices for the 59 homes purchased in 2016 averaged $2096k, and ranged in price from $150k to $276k. This data, when compared to that from prior years shows a significant strengthening of the McKinney Heights real estate market.

Shopping, Entertainment and Other Area Attractions

The prime amenity for this neighborhood is the community pool and playground area, which are open to homeowners and their guests. The activity area features playground equipment for the kids, a concrete basketball court and a covered picnic area for gatherings.

McKinney Heights residents can also enjoy a number of shopping and eating-out places scattered along IH-35 in the South Austin area. These include Southpark Meadows, a very popular destination. Southpark Meadows features banks, furniture stores, a movie theater, Residents of McKinney Heights can enjoy this nice pool and other neighborhood amenities.many small businesses, and large-box stores like a Super WalMart, Sam's and Best Buy.

There are many other nearby outlets at the intersections of IH-35 and William Cannon/Stassney, south of Austin in Buda (Cabela's) and Kyle, and in areas toward Austin.

Golfers can "play a round" at the City of Austin's Clay and Kizer golf courses, and at the Grey Rock and Plum Creek Golf Clubs. Those who like parks and trails have available to them several nearby: the City of Austin's Mary Moore Searight Metro Park just off W. Slaughter Ln., and the McKinney Falls State Park. These two, and others, are multi-featured parks designed for the enjoyment of a wide range of visitors.

Since McKinney Heights is located close to IH-35, it is fairly simple to get to area jobs, entertainment and attractions in the Austin area. Travel to points south (San Antonio, e.g.), east (the airport), west (Lake Travis and the Hill Country) and north to Austin and beyond from IH-35 can be made.

The McKinney Heights Homeowner’s Association (HOA) and Taxes

Owners of homes in McKinney Heights are required to maintain an active membership in the neighborhood HOA (McKinney Park East HOA). Taxes in the McKinney Heights neighborhoods (including McKinney Park East and Sheldon) are assessed by the City of Austin, the Austin ISD, Travis County and other entities. The total tax rate, which varies from year to year, was set at around $2.23/$100 of property value for the year 2016.
