Those who want to live in the Onion Creek area of S Austin (and enjoy its amenities) have another option with the development of Legends Way at Onion Creek. When this development was begun in 2014, the builder, RSI Communities, was a new participant in home construction in the Austin area.
RSI's approach to home-building is unique. The company applies what it has learned in its Southern CA builds to building homes that are less expensive than traditionally-built new-construction homes. It does this by streamlining the building process and trimming costs by standardizing many features which would be considered upgrades in other neighborhoods.
This development is continuing at a brisk pace in April 2018. Buyers can purchase new homes that have from 1,942 sq. ft. in its smallest single-story plan (2 of these), and up to 2,980 sq. ft. in its largest 2-story plan (4 plans). Prices start in the upper $284k, and go up to $329k. Features include 2" x 6" exterior walls, energy-efficient windows & insulation, SS appliances, granite countertops, full sod and sprinkler system, and garage door opener.
The Onion Creek Club ♦ Golf, Tennis, Swimming
The primary amenity of Onion Creek is the Onion Creek Club, a private country club for residents of Onion Creek. Residents of Legends Way at Onion Creek have the option to join the club at various membership levels for extra fees.
Other fee-based features of the Onion Creek Club include a junior Olympic swimming pool, a large and active tennis center, fitness center, and facilities for dining and meetings. Membership in the Club is not required of residents.
Neighborhood Parks ♦ Onion Creek Austin
The Onion Creek neighborhood features two parks that can be enjoyed by all of its residents. These are the Edward M. Sullivan Park and Ballybunion Park. The Sullivan Park, the larger of these two parks, has a basketball court, softball field, play equipment for children, and picnic facilities. The Sullivan Park is located near the lake pictured to the right. The Ballybunion Park features a gazebo, picnic tables and a grill for get-togethers with friends and family.
Legends Way at Onion Creek Nearby Amenities
Shopping, Eating, etc.: Legends Way is located east IH-35 and very near to widely used Southpark Meadows center. Its major stores include Sam's Club, Target, WalMart, Marshall's, JC Penneys and many places to shop, eat, view a movie and bank. Outdoor enthusiasts can visit the Cabela's store just to the south in Buda as well as the San Marcos outlet stores.
Parks: Parks available (in addition to the two in the Onion Creek neighborhood) include the Mary Moore Searight Metro Park with its 300+ acres of things to do, and the McKinney Falls State Park, a 744-acre facility which offers opportunities for camping, hiking, road- and mountain-biking, fishing, family outings like picnics, and more. Onion Creek runs through this park.
Onion Creek ♦ Homeowner's Association (HOA)
Membership in the Onion Creek Homeowners Association is required. The HOA website contains a lot of useful information for homeowners. The HOA fees cover landscaping of common neighborhood areas, handling of trash, and round-the-clock security patrol of the subdivision.
Public Schools for Legends Way at Onion Creek Students
The students living in Legends Way attend schools of the Austin Independent School District. It is always wise to verify current schools with AISD since they can change from year to year.
