Approximate boundaries of Southwest Austin Legend Oaks neighborhoods.The Location of Legend Oaks

Residents of Legend Oaks can get to downtown Austin and points north via Mopac (Loop 1), to cities like San Marcos and San Antonio by driving US 290/71 to I-35, and to points east and west (the Hill Country) via US 290/71. The neighborhood is located near the Oak Hill “Y,” the junction of US 290 W and US 71. The Freescale and AMD facilities are close by.

 

For shopping, try the new Arbor Trails shopping center at Mopac and William Cannon, and the older shopping centers on William Cannon and at US 290/71 and Mopac. These are wonderful for this neighborhood. Shops at Arbor Trails include Costco, banks, eating establishments like Chuy’s (Mexican) and Cheddars, clothing stores, Haverty’s Furniture and other small businesses. There are three fitness places near Legend Oaks. The new Escarpment Village in Circle C Ranch at W. Slaughter and Escarpment Blvd. also provides eating and shopping opportunities, including an HEB grocery store.  

Home Choices in Legend Oaks

The development of this area of Austin real estate began in 1987, and was completed around 2001. The neighborhoods of Legend Oaks provide homebuyers with many features and a wide range of home choices (in home price, size and age). Homes range in size from around 1,400 sq. ft. to more than 3,500 sq. ft. Sales prices in 2008 ranged from $197,000 to $316,000. Along with the rest of the Austin area, homes in Legend Oaks have increased in value in recent years. The average sale price in 2004 was $205,492. At the end of 2008, the average sales price was $253,827.

 

Legend Oaks is noted for its wide streets, nice homes, many trees and green space, and peaceful setting in Southwest Austin.

There are two home owner associations in the neighborhood: the Legend Oaks Homeowner’s Association established with the original development, and the Legend Oaks Owners Association II that covers the newer part of the community. Both HOAs have an amenity center with swimming pool for the enjoyment of Legend Oaks families. Check with the HOAs for monthly fees.

Opportunities for Outdoor Enjoyment for Legend Oaks Residents

Residents of Legend Oaks also have access to a number of nearby outdoor activities. These include:

  • Legend Oaks Park, a 36-acre green preserve on the west side of Escarpment Blvd.
  • Dick Nichols Park on Beckett Road
    has a large heated swimming pool, basketball courts, picnic areas, sand volleyball court, and other features for individuals and families.
  • The Villages of Western Oaks Karst Preserve is an 18-acre area set aside for the enjoyment of outdoor enthusiasts. The preserve has 5 caves and a sink hole (formed when a cave collapsed), wild animals and other creatures.
  • The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, a favorite destination of many, and the Veloway, a 3.1 mile asphalt track for bicycling and rollerblading, are located on La Crosse, and are accessed via Mopac. No vehicular traffic or walking is allowed on the Veloway.
  • Residents can also enjoy Metropolitan Park, located in Circle C Ranch just west of Escarpment on W. Slaughter Lane
    . It has numerous soccer fields, an oak-shaded children’s playscape and picnic area, a basketball court, a Frisbee golf course, and hike and bike trails.
  • For those interested in golf, the Grey Rock Golf Club (formerly Circle C GC) is one of the nicest clubs in the Austin area. Its 18 holes will challenge the skills and sometimes the temperament of those who play there. GRGC is located south of Circle C on SH 45.
