Bastrop is the county seat of Bastrop County. It is located on the Colorado River (a river runs through it), some 35 miles east of Austin. Bastrop still has a vintage county courthouse and a quaint downtown section. There has been a good bit of commercial and residential real estate development in the Bastrop area over the past several years, especially on the western side of town. The city has plenty of shopping, golfing, camping and residential options, and easy access to Austin via US 71. |
